All philosophers true to the study will go mad some day.
But then again, it is Normal that defines Mad.

Found.

This was something I found in a notebook of mine when I was flipping through it. I obviously can't finish it now because I don't know what I felt then to write it, so here goes my half-baked poem.

A moon so pale never was
So bright in the early night
Overpowering the stars so weak,
Overpowering the Sun, its fading light

Bright in the sky, bright in mind
This pale crescent did bring to me
Memories long banished from self
A bittersweet pain in my eyes, you see

I long stared at its golden haze
Reliving the Past in its warmth
That warmth that soon turned to heat
And burnt to ashes the joy that swarm'd

That moon did witness that first kiss
That passionate and devouring kiss
That burns my lips even today
As I think of he whom I miss...

I so want to finish it. I'll look around in my life and get back :)

Within the Darkness

Through the dark and curly black,

He eased himself through the hair

That strew itself over skin so tender

A slight tickle, warmth I felt

As he waded through the moisture; searching

For that hole through which he shall pierce

The hole that shall sustain him and his kind

All of a sudden, he stood still

My heart skipped a beat; this was it

A second later he was in my hand

I did not let him pierce - relief

Instead, I felt him in my hand

Throbbing with life

Another second and there he lay dead

Bleeding my own blood; helpless

On the white speckled with black

Amongst the rest of the dead lice.

The Condemnation

It’d been a long day; a very long day. That was behind me however. Right now, a hearty supper and two glasses of wine later, I sat in front of the roaring, warm fire. Smoking my usual pipe and in my red robe and fur lined slippers, I sat down in my usual chair and heard the church clock strike eleven. Nothing surprising, this was my routine; one that I adhered to, almost consciously, every day for the past five years. Yes, almost consciously.
Most days I find myself forcing my days to work according to schedule so that my routine goes unchanged. And by this routine, I shall sit in this very chair for an hour more and then proceed to put out the fire, climb up to my room, lay awake in my bed for another half hour till sleep takes over my conscious self. What I do in this hour? Well, it depends on my mood. (Doesn’t everything?) One day, I might look through the old photo albums, might try my miserable hand at the daily crossword, or browse through the one of the books in my large, oak wood bookshelf. Tonight, I was too tired for any activity. I could’ve fallen asleep right there. Yet, I wouldn’t let myself. Routine. So I sat there, looking at the fire, glowing and orange.

Why I don’t break out of this routine? Well, I guess for the same reason you don’t. Safety; security; the illusion we like to drown ourselves in that as long as we avoid change, things will be “fine”. Ha. The comfort we find in illusion is almost laughable- almost because I look for that comfort too, as does everyone. Of course, we do welcome that change in routine that happens once in a while. Even that however, has to fit that bigger routine. It’s almost unbreakable, this routine. Why, even our birth, schooling, graduation, marriage, widowhood, death... routine isn’t it?
I was sweating a bit now, don’t know why. I instinctively wiped my forehead with the sleeve of my robe. Suddenly, as if Routine knew I was talking about it, the bell rang; thrice and shrill, tearing through the earlier silence. I stared at the space in front of me as if it would reveal the identity of who stood outside my door at this dark hour. I slowly got up and made my way to the door. A slight fear grew in me but curiosity, as usual, won the argument. (What was that line about curiosity killing something again?) I pulled open the door and there I saw, with a bottle of wine, my brother. Not unusual that he stopped by but not very usual either. Michael, he was two years younger than me and as sharp as a tack. We often had a nightly chat.

“Come on in Mike. What brings you here today? You were here just a week ago. I daresay you’ve anything else to say already”
“Why brother! Must I have to say something to seek your company? I have a bottle of the best wine in my hand as do you in your shelves. Why not we pour ourselves a glass or five and rant? I assume there are enough problems with humanity for us to talk about over wine.”

I sighed deeply. I could tell that the bottle in his hand wasn’t his first of the night. By this time, we were back in the living room. I was back in my usual chair. Mike had gone off to find glasses to drink out of. Considering the collection I have and the perfectionist he is, he’ll take a good five minutes to find the ones suiting his present mood. I reverted back to my thoughts and the fire and my pipe.

Presently Mike walked in. He places the glasses and his bottle of wine along with a bottle of my best wine on the low table in front of me, pulled his arm chair closer and nestled in. A glass of wine later, he began, “So what runs through your mind today?”
“Nothing. Just reflecting on routine.”
“Ah. The ever prevalent cosmic Order”
“My thoughts were more on the lines of why we never broke out of this routine. Why we found such security in order to be precise.”
“Maybe because it is but impossible to break out of it.” , he declared, slightly pompously.
“Eh? What do you mean?”
“Have you ever wondered that it is impossible to break out of this order? That there is no way out?”
“Are we talking about destiny here?”
“Destiny? No. Let’s not trivialize it brother. I’m talking ‘bout something bigger than that. Much bigger. Everything that happens is merely a part of the routine. The atom bomb over those countries, the birth of a son to Mrs. Smith across the street, my being here, your having studied law and moved into ecology, the fires in a city in the other hemisphere, the snow in Alaska and the disappearance of Atlanta, everything is just a part of this humongous routine of things.”
“Something like everything happens or a reason?”
“Something like that”
I got the flow of what he was talking about. He made sense. He got me thinking as well. We’d been through three glasses each now. It was sinking in, you could tell.
“Let me see if this is right. So, you’re saying, that everything that has happened, is happening, and will happen is all a part of a predetermined order?”
“No. Not predetermined, but that will be determined according to the present. It’s like, this Order knows there is an end and what the end is. It also knows that there are various possibilities to that end; infinite in fact. It will play with each of these possibilities every second.”
“Hmm, so it will lead the world and life and everything in it to this final end, whatever it may be, changing its course at its will”
“Yes, something on those lines”
“Impressive. Ever thought about what that end might be?”
“Alas, too many possibilities crowd my mind when I put to it that question”
“What do you mean?”
“Well, the end could be everlasting life; immortality of a super human race; extinction of all life in the world, universe, the swallowing up of all physical existence- the stars, planets, solar systems, universes, everything into a black nothingness”
“Hmm, I see what you mean. But you made me think of something else when you said that, unrelated as it may be.”
“What would that be?”
“Well, ‘everything be swallowed into black nothingness.’ Why must nothingness be black? Why not white, pink? Imagine, at the end of it all there would be but just pink and nothing else.”
“Ha ha. I see what you mean. How long do you think that pinkness will last?”
“Hmm, I have no idea. What do you think the end of all time will be? (if there is such a thing)”
“I don’t know. Have you wondered why we’re all so concerned about time?”
“I suppose it’s because we’re limited by it all the time. At all levels, whether it’s a deadline, an exam or our existence, we’re hounded by it. I believe that’s why we may define ourselves as thinking entities that are given a physical existence that exists in time and space”
“Well said, well said. The wine’s all out, brother. Have you any more?”
“No more wine. Check for whisky in the cabinet next to the spices.”

And he went off to get the whisky and, by practice, the glasses that suit the drink. I got up, fed the dying fire with some coal and old paper, sat down. It was two in the morning by now. He’d kept me up. He’d “broken my routine”; or stayed in the routine of breaking my routine every once in a while – you can put it either way.

He came back with the whisky and the glasses, poured us both a glass, downed his, made a weird noise and poured himself another. He was pretty high on the intoxication meter by now. I could tell. The two of us have been on binges together, some that lasted weeks, so I could tell.
“Are you alright, Mike?”
“Who? Me? Yeah, yeah just give me a minute.” With pleasure, I thought to myself. (his speech was slurring a bit)
We sat in silence. I thought about Mike. He was a pretty handsome chap, still an eligible bachelor, had been in the army, intellectual- a pretty good catch for the average girl. I think he felt my gaze over him, he looked up.
“Wassa matter?”
“Nothing, nothing. Just thinking.”
“I know what you were thinking. You think I’m the perfect li’l boy, don’t you?”
“Who knows? You might be.” I said.
He cocked his eyebrow and looked up from his whisky. “..and I thought I’d drunk too much!”
“No no, thought that IS true, what I meant was, why do you think you’re not perfect? Maybe what you are is actually perfection? What is perfection but an abstract attribute anyway?”
Now, I was blabbering, I knew it.
Mike looked up, “Brother, you prove your blood is mine” and he stood up to shake hands and promptly tripped and fell back into his chair. Enough was enough.
“Alright, Mike. It’s time you go home. Lord knows how long you’ll take to recover from this hangover. You’ve already ruined one night of mine.”
He exclaimed with surprise and a bit of alcohol, “The lord! Ha ha. The Lord knows, does he? Well, well, well.
“Alright, alright, I’ll take you to the door, Matt’ll be here soon, he can take you home. Now hand me that bottle, Mike.”

I was tired by now, we’d been up all night. Matt the milkman will be on his way soon, and can take Mike home. Relief. I stood at the door, with Mike propped against my shoulder. Matt was just coming down the lane from the gate.

“Good morning, Mr.Wilkers, how ar..My my is that..? Well, someone’s been downing a drink or ten, hasn’t he?”
“Yes Matt. Could you do me a favour and take him home, please? I don’t think he can walk anmore.”
“Gladly, Mr.Wilkers. I say, where has he been all night, then? Here? Not one of your usual nightly parleys?”
“Yes, Matt. Quite right. We were talking and the more we spoke, the more we were haunted by our thoughts.”
I sighed. Matt took Mike off my shoulder and on to his.
“Well, lucky me then. I slept soundly and I’m happy about life. Ignorance is truly blissful, ainnit, Mr.Wilkers?” he said. “Well, good morning and have a nice day, Mr.Wilkers. Don’t worry, I’ll get him home safe.” With that he turned around and left.
I was left staring at him and reflecting on his last words – ignorance is bliss. How right you are, Matt, how right you are. Ignorance is bliss and we are condemned to think, us poor bastards. I sighed, took in the morning air and went back inside for my hour of sleep.

The crescent

Early morning, I come out
From in between the sheets
And walk to the glass so stout
And look

I see what I see
A golden crescent against the pale
A thin curve standing out
And wisps of black brought by the gale

A smile creeps, my mind does sing
“Oh, I love my new nose ring”

:p Thought I'd just do a nonsense poem. Cheers ;)

Of the black headed visitor

He came to me, with his wiry moustache
Coming closer, inevitable was the clash
Gullible fellow, he was my second of the day
Closer, when he was at the end of his way
“ZZZZTTT”, score for the Pest o Flash.

Cry of the Estranged

I feel surrounded-surrounded
By Satan himself; I see him
An embodiment of cruelty, I see him
The glee in his eyes tainted by pleasure
As they watch me writhe in pain
His fires rage on my every side and feed on me
Like parasites sucking out my humaneness

Desperate like the Boy
Who cried Wolf a time too many
I cry out to my nearest ear,
To be answered
By my Echo, fading away
Isolation.

The want to be lulled to tranquillity
Overwhelms my eroding mind
Eroded by the flow of Misery-
A poisoned river of thoughts

My strings of Sanity gave away
I neither fall nor float but rise
Not to stare into empty darkness
But there I was-blinded
By light; by realization

Satan’s fires are burning with my own
The anger and the agony mix
And rage to burn all reason.
I see everything through a madman’s eyes

I mull over my seeming insignificance
In life and Life, both vague
A tear mattered no more
As did anything, in alienation

An effort I did make,
Trying to keep up the pretence in vain
That I was indifferent, oblivious even
To every occurrence that affected
My frail Self- an outright denial

As the fires burned down, I still remained
A formless cluster of lifeless thoughts;
An unquenchable thirst for understanding;
An insatiable desire to be wanted

I live thereon off what Satan’s fury left behind
Morbid thoughts and hopelessness
A strange bliss it may seem, it was all I had;
My own fury left nothing to salvage

Author's note: I do not call this a poem a work of art or a piece of literature. It's just a collection of thoughts written in a frenzy.

Random scribbles 2

1.So yeah, I look at my friend's blog. She's written poetry. She calls it poetry. I call it poetry. Generally, people call it poetry. She's written truckloads of it. Wait, that's probably not the proper word to use - truckloads, but yes, that is what I find apt for it. She just scribbles around in class and comes up with a poem. She sets a target like one in a week or something.
Now, I'm not commenting on her practices. No sir, that's not what I'm here for. She's pretty good at what she wants to be good at.What this got me thinking, strangely, was -what is poetry?
What I came up with, it's usually a set of broken lines; fragments of sentences that are generally enough to give a shape to the meaning. What that meaning is, well, it's up to you I guess. I've written poems myself, right? And I thought to myself what made my poetry "poetry" and that's the answer I came up with. O_O
Weird, ain't it?

2.Saarang 2010 began and ended. I found it, well, not so great. I enjoyed myself though. I guess I expected too much out of it. Like that "Schokolade machen workshop" (chocolate making workshop, I just like saying it in German), I expected the same you would expect. Well, at the end of the day, I re-learnt how to pour melted chocolate into a given mould. And I paid 50 bucks for it. Honestly people, get a life!
Like I think I've said somewhere in my blog, ( :-p) expectations really ruin you once in a while. Honestly, sometimes I don't even see the point in remaining optimistic anymore. And yet I begin my day with a hope that the shower won't be too cold.

3. Sometimes, I feel it childish myself that I believe that anything that happens, happens for the greater good. But, so far, it's always turned out to be that way. You can ask what about global warming? Well, maybe IT IS for the greater good that the human race becomes extinct. Who knows? On this note, I must mention, do watch "The Age of the Stupid". Really.

Here I shall stop my version of "Nameless Ramblings". Desperate to write something "read-worthy" though.

The Waking

I loved the early mornings; the soft rays of the sun and the crisp, cool air. And I was at the beach that too- jogging, in fact; barefoot. I could feel the grainy texture of the damp sand against my soles; feel the first rays of the sun hitting my cheek; feel the beads of sweat drip from the tip of my hair.
I followed a bead through touch, as it moved down from my forehead, travelling on the bridge of my nose. I felt it dangle on the tip of my nose for a second. It then missed my lips and landed on my chin, slid down my neck to join the numerous other twins of itself. It’s amazing, the things you notice if you realize the beauty in them.

What I hadn’t realized was that I had stopped in my tracks while trying to follow those of the droplet of sweat. I looked around; looked back.
My footprints. Those were the first things I saw. My tracks were missing at places, no doubt the places where the ocean had done its duty of wiping the sand clean. I watched as a few more of prints got washed away by the waves. I watched the gentle froth come and go as if it were lapping up the golden of the sand and leaving behind the dark brown each time.
Then, I looked towards the horizon. The sun had risen higher now, staring at me right in the eye – a deep, reddish orange. I noticed the moon was still in the sky, fading away, surrendering to the more powerful.
Out in the sea, I could see the last of a fleet of fishermen’s boats. Closer, a couple of early bird surfing enthusiasts were up and at it already. I watched the first family coming out for an early morning dip in the pond. I stared at the lone palm tree a couple of metres away; branches moving with the mild breeze causing its shadow to sway ever so slightly. I looked down at my feet- dirty, sandy, black in places, and wiggling toes with uncut nails. A crab quickly scurried into a tiny hole beside my right foot. Then a shell caught my eye. A beaut of a shell it was; as big as my little finger, white with brown stripes around the circumference. It looked like swivels of caramel poured gently on a layer of milk and frozen for posterity.
And the sounds; yes. Faint, high pitched shrieks, gulls flying around, the wind rubbing against my ears and of course the roar of the breaking waves which left a light spray of salt water on my face. Even otherwise I could smell the salt in the air; the smell you tend to get when you’re at the sea shore. If you’re lucky, you can sometimes taste the salt in the air too. I did, every time.

*****************************************************************

I woke. All of a sudden; I snapped out of my trance. Nobody clicked their fingers. Nobody touched me. Oh, I forgot. I don’t feel touch no more.
It was that dream again. It wasn’t a dream. We don’t sleep. It was a vision- the last day of my past life. Oh wait, scratch that. My Life. Yes. I remember clearly now. I was shot soon after that. All I had to do was turn around. He was there with his Smith & Wesson. But I don’t want to think about that right now. We dead still have emotions. Only slightly though- they wear off.
I was partly into Philosophy during my life; always wondering about Life after Death. Well, now I know. That was the irony of trying to know life after Death- you had to die to learn about Life. We could still smell, and taste and hear and see (the colours were not the same though). We had pretty much the same bodies. We weren’t white sheets floating around like I used to think when I was alive. No. We had the same bodies and moved about in the same realm. The only difference was we’re invisible, didn’t feel touch and didn’t excrete. We could see ourselves but you can’t; we’re right next to you. Didn’t expect it, did you? We do eat though. Grass, shoots, fruits, anything; but according to what I’ve heard, as you go on, you begin to live on air. And we have these trances often, it seems; unconsciously in the beginning and conscious later on.
Life is completely different when one of your sense organs is replaced by another. You see, we don’t have touch and your blue is our green but, we do have the ability to communicate with animals. And that is fascinating. The most fascinating part is, unlike what you believe, the world is definitely not anthropocentric, shouldn’t be at least. I’m pretty young in THIS world, around three “Life” days old. So I haven’t gone around much. But there was this interesting dog I spoke with. Yes, very interesting. Sounded more wise than any human I had come into contact with when I was alive. We humans are too proud, I tell you. But I can’t do anything about it. Moving on though, the first thing I noticed about my new, dead, self was that I felt no attachment to any of my previous objects of desire. I went to my house yesterday; saw my parents grieving. It didn’t do anything to me. (Here I should probably mention that we get around by walking. Time is nothing to us and we feel no fatigue. We are not bound by Time. Though I think we do feel physical pain, like when we’re bit by a dog or something. I do not know how since we don’t feel touch. But I’ve experienced it. )

I’ve a lot to figure out in this place. But even in this world, where I am but three days old, there is the question of “What after?” I’ve not adapted well enough to ask that question, even to myself. But maybe...
Wait a second. I got it.

*Translated into earth language: I awoke. Amazed. I wheeled over to the superior protector and visually transmitted the following narration, “I awoke from my scheduled hibernation. I had a vision, a sequence of events within my controlling unit. It was of a planet altogether unimaginable – with beings of limbs and ten digits and extraordinary things. I experienced all their hormonal changes and experiences as one of them; in first person. And the entire meaning of their being and ethereal being is.......................................”

The question, dear readers, as I highlighted in my last entry, is, “What is real?”.
If you’re sure you know, well, good luck with that.

First day of new semester

Coming back, turns out not much has changed. No. Not really.
The whiners still whine, the hep stay hep, the vain, vain and the plain, plain.
The same nods, the same groupism, the seniority hierarchy, the rooms, the tears, the comfort levels. Yes. All the same. But of course, as always, change is inevitable innit?

We first years found ourselves becoming a part of the system- walking the walk, talking the talk, having intellectual conversations once in a while, knowing when to do what and all that jazz.

Fear, once in a while, is an amazing feeling. Maybe not fear exactly. That rush of adrenalin, the heightened sense of excitement; the feeling you get before you bungee jump off a cliff or before you commit yourself to a serious relationship, or in my case before the start of a new semester, is just thrilling. It’s the curiosity; the wait that does things to you. Unfortunately, it also, all the while, builds up expectations within your mind. Expectations and attachments; desire, as we all have been hearing, is the root cause of evil. And so, when these so called expectations we’ve attached ourselves to do not get fulfilled, we become but disheartened. It drains the enthusiasm out of you. You are left with just the hope that things will get better. This is what I’m left with right now. Fortunately, for me, that’s all it takes to put the enthu right back into me. So I start off this academic semester with optimism.
(Just realized that I’ve been jumping between the three persons of narration too often. No matter.)

Secondly, I seem to be waking up every day with a burst of positive energy. Good for me. But this optimism might get into trouble one day.

Stuff that has interested me so far this semester:
One, solipsism – The belief that only you exist in this world and that everything else is but your dream and your creation. Fascinating isn’t it? And believable. For all you know, you could be living in your dream as you read this and wake up to find only existing or in a world completely different. An infinite number of possibilities rush to my mind as I think about this.
If not this being my dream and creation, then someone else’s. Ever since I was fifteen I’ve pondered whether we all live in a giant’s dream. Now, I think maybe we’re dolls belonging to a kid, belonging to a superhuman race which has the ability to infuse life into inanimate objects, and he’s watching us play to pass his time. Could be, right? Or that you're a different being altogether in some completely other dimension and you fell asleep one day and are dreaming all of this. Maybe that's a place where there are no concepts of universe. Maybe all reality is just a four walled room and you're the only being. Maybe reality is you're an invisible dog with extraordinary thinking capacities. Complex, yet believable.

Two, the fact that mathematics is abstract. Yes. I realized it just now. One of the basic facts of life; the science of numbers, is abstract. Where did they come from? From one of the most abstract and complicated things – the mind. WE created numbers and symbols. WE said that two is greater than one. Nowhere do these numbers EXIST. Nor do these symbols. They weren’t begotten from Nature unlike Physics or Biology. Math was just pulled out from thin air.

Third, the chapters on “Sex” and “Rearing” in “The Naked Ape” by Desmond Morris. Really good. Amazingly eye-opening. For me, at least.

And lastly, I’ve understood that I actually do have the strength to overcome any difficulty in life. Nothing is worth dying. A number of setbacks may happen again and again, but I have the strength. I do.

Bleeding words

Ten in the night. Her table.
She stared at the blank page in front of her. She knew what she had to do. It was simple.
At least, that’s what others told her.
“Ha!” She thought to herself. “‘Easier said than done’ to them all! What do they know anyway? They’ve never had to think. Gah!”
She sat there, looking around her room for ideas; for inspiration. She gazed at the picture frames on her table – heart shaped ones, self decorated ones, ones with her; with her parents; with her friends; and her favourite- the one with Ronald McDonald. That one was taken when she was six. She loved that day. But that didn’t matter now; didn’t matter at all. She looked at her Mac, in sleep mode; her phone, switched off. She didn’t need messages flooding into her inbox dozen to the minute demanding her attention. No, that wouldn’t do. She knew what they’d be about anyway. “Are you done yet?”, “Today’s the last date”, “What’s wrong with you?” yada yada yada yada.

Bored, her gaze shifted to her CD collection- Buble, Presley, Kylie, King of Pop, Rolling stones, SOAD… “It would be easier to write a song”, she thought and put her head down on her table.
After some time, she swiveled around, only to find the T.V running pointlessly, clothes strewn around, Plato, Spinoza, Crichton, Rowling and Blyton lying around cozily on her bed, some on the floor, and the table fan whirring away. It was all just a huge, confounding mess to her right now. Just like her life.
Out of desperation, she turned to the ceiling and found nothing that could help her there either. Just dingy, old, blue paint. Exhaling loudly, she closed her eyes and mouthed a small prayer.
“What am I doing?! Ugh. I’ve to finish this today.”, she thought, disgusted with herself, and faced the table again.
She fingered her application form for the scholarship and read (for what she thought was the thousandth time) the last line: Please attach herewith a handwritten composition on how you view “Speech”. You will be tested on your ability to put across your ideas within the limit of five to ten sentences.

She stared at it and cursed herself.
All said and done, she knew she had to do it, and now at that. So she got down to it.
Shakily, her hand reached out for her pen, “accidentally” dropping it back in twice. She set it down on the paper and slowly wrote:

SPEECH

Then she put the pen down again and took a deep breath. She knew she was needlessly over-dramatizing, but she didn’t know what to write. And so, for the first time, she sat back and thought. After two minutes, she slowly picked up her pen again and put nib to paper.

Speech is a comfort, nothing more. It improves communication but is not necessary. It is just a vocalization of thoughts. Undoubtedly, without speech, the civilization we know would not exist, but civilization still would. Life may not be as simple, but life would go on. After all, my life has been going on, and I haven’t been able to speak in eighteen years.

She took her pen, closed it and read what she had written once again. Calmly, she kept the forms aside and got up. She could feel the anger rising in her slowly. By the time she’d reached her bed, all she could do was fling whatever was on her bed onto the floor and throw herself on her bed. She made an awkward moaning noise and, for the first time in a year, she cried; cried about the unfair ways of the monster she thought Life to be.

A second of solace

Down the hideous path I tread; fighting
To ward off that Darkness that chases
Me
It overpowers me even as I try
Hard to keep myself above
The shadow it casts
Upon my dreams
Lower than dust, my dreams
Do become as (in)significant as
A grain of sand
Within my eye, filling me with anguish
Making me cry
Trudge I did, seeking to find
Solace in that whose existence I still
Am ignorant of

As I walked the path, I took
Refuge within myself
Within that they call
The mind, then a Gust hit
My haggard face and ruffled body,
Cajoling me to believe that
It is true that I’m but a feather floating
On this gust that
Takes me upon itself

I feel myself elated; lifted by
The breeze carrying me as
I go, as water
In a river, gliding, I
The feather, dip and tumble as
The wind makes me, only
To let me land in shelter safe

 Thus, I take comfort
For those few seconds while
The breeze washes over me
Relief
And leaves me be while
I open my eyes to find that
The Darkness has me,
Encompassed.

The curve of a smile

"I am enlightened" said the Fool's smile
"I am ignorant" said that of the Wise
"You know nothing" implied the Skeptic's
"I know all" was that of the Vain
"I'm right" was seen of the Pessimist's
"Not always" replied the Optimist's
Looking at this, appeared- a smile
Another; a smirk almost
"I am happy" smiled Innocence.

Life in a festival... (again tentative)

Atop sits the elephant, wise and watchful
Father on his one side, his other
Occupied by his compassionate mother
Their neighbours, each of four hands
Look down on the world, asserting
Their greatness at the top, the beginning
A level below stood the lusty blue youth,
Rounded by the girls dancing, in merry
And joy, their eyes glowing
To his side, lay a mirror invisible
Ten in fact, each portraying in difference,
Him, in all His glory and power within
By his other side sat his wife
With her friends, each a beauty;
A power; a woman; a deity

Then came the saints; one, two, three,
On their divine way
Devotion in their hearts, wisdom in their say
And then, the mortals, a variety of them at that
A wedding, a worship, a game,
A parade to the temple came
Down below sat the merchant
His wife beside; goods all about
Gleaming smile and a belly wide
And below all were the villagers.
Dhobis; a farmer; a snake charmer on the side.
Working their lives off until they died.

And as the girl looks at her art created
Her mind wonders.
How the world is so alike her art
She watches and ponders

Another generation?

This is a very weird post. For in this post, I shall tell you people why I feel older than any of my class mates. I feel like I'm in another generation altogether.

After coming here, 4 of my class girls started going out with some guy or the other. I use the term "going out" for that is exactly what it is. They sit, talk to the guy for a week, two at the maximum, and become their girlfriends of sorts.

I am amazed how they do that. For when I got into a relationship, I got "committed". I wasn't "going out". My friends and I, then, did not "go out". We fell in love. We first talk, we fall in love and get committed to him only if we trust him and know we'll end up with  him. That ain't the case today. You find a guy. You go out, "be his girlfriend", make out and then maybe, you'll love him and he'll love you

I find that very different actually. My opinion of course. And I every time I see them I go like.." the kids these days...!!" :p

A thousand years of love

A thousand years I want to hold your hand
A thousand years of you beside me
Loving me all the way

A thousand years I want to say
I shall love you a thousand years
Come what may.

A thousand years your eyes I want to see
Thousand years within them, love
Is what I want to be

A thousand years I want to be seen
As nothing that meant to you more,
A thousand years I want to mean

A thousand years within your arms
A thousand years I want to be held
Where nothing harms

I pray, I cry, I want that with all my life
To be yours; all yours; only yours
The one to whom I belong, I ask of thee
Let my love be yours. Deny me not of this.

Of dreams and love

He saw her in his dreams; eyes closed
A maiden fair and beautiful
Her eyes as clear as the morning dew,
Skin so fair of the white sandy beach
Like the morning rays were her kisses soft
Cheeks as soft as the morning breeze,
Her hands, oh how he loved those hands
As graceful as the eagle's flight
Pure at heart, clear in mind
Was his maiden of dreams. In light
He woke, his eyelids lifted, in front was I
In all my dreary self

One look he gave me, his eye
Widened, "you are her, my dream
You are her my dear". I refuse; deny
"I have not that elegance, nor grace
Nor beauty of your girl desired
I am not her, your dream, your love"
Long he looked, longingly he looked and cried
Out loud " 'tis true, you are not her
You are not her my dear, my dream girl
You are not her, for you are better"
And there did the love blossom.

Luck, is it?

If being forgiven is lucky,
Then lucky I am
If having a caring soul for yourself be luck
Then lucky I am
If being given support and encouragement is luck
Then, again, lucky I am
If unconditional, undying love begotten be luck,
Then, God knows how lucky I am.
For you, oh Soul my own, personify my luck
Having forgiven my sins of stupidity,
Having borne my crimes born out of ignorance,
Having cared for me through your pain
I see your eyes, I still see
In the beginning what I did see
A love so strong, so steep
And see something never before seen
A pain so sharp, so deep.
My sorrow lies in those eyes two
Where pain profound I see
Look closer, I see your heart,
My sorrow lies, the pain is me..............

A different English.

This is a typical conversation between two IIT M students

A: Hey dude
B: Dude, like wassup?
A: Nothing, you finished studying?
B: No dude, I'm putting night out, the subject is just pain max
A: Pain only, I'm so sure tomorrow's exam will be a cupper only
B: Dude, like totally, I've to go put grub and put night out only
A: Some guys are like pack only, they don't even want to put fight
B: If I do that, my folks will like rape me. I need a 7 point CG dude
A: Ha ha, my parents know I'm one gib max guy but still make me put fight da
B: I know macha, it's all time rg ing only at home. That's why I never leave the insti.
A: So true. Only those muggus can get it all da
B: No dude, they're just putting pseud, they're no stud and all, they put fight for even slysha pain subjects
A: So true, anyway, I'm leaving, gonna go put arbit stuff for a while. See ya

And so on goes the conversation.

I'm sure you guys noticed something different about this language where there is only one verb "put" and there are the eternal suffixes "max" and "only". And of course, te certain words peculiar to the "insti" such as arbit, pseud, stud, rg-ing, rape, slysha, gib, pack, night out, "putting grub, putting fight.

It's not that these people do not KNOW proper English, it's just that we choose not to speak it. To us, this is our English. It happens all the time, everywhere. You notice you speak in a diffrent Engilsh with your parents; different with your friends; different with your teachers; different on stage; different in a debate. Each time the style is so different. Yet we are the same person. Aren't we?

What brings about this difference then? Why is the English spoken on stage the "proper" English? You get these questions if you read Amy Tan's "mother tongue" like we freshies did.

I don't know. I see myself using a certain english in the blog and different in my answer papers.

Why do I do that?

One night..

All alone, she did moan
"She wanted to be alone",
They cried, yet didn't cry
She tried, yet didn't try
And ended up being the survivor lone.

Does a sad limerick count as a limerick?? This is mine.

The memory of an Angel

This is a short story I wrote for a creative writing competition in my hostel and was awarded first place for. The topic was the story should end with the sentence "Shit!". Incidentally, first time writing fiction. Total bomb!

It's hard being a doctor in a small town in an obscure county. Specifically when half the town was hit with a strange epidemic of diarrhea. Asking people about their ways and times of disembowelment was not my idea of glamour when I entered Pre-Med at Oregon. Listening to old ladies offer me their opinion as to why their shit was coming out too fast, however, was something entirely different. At least the former didn't make my stomach want to churn itself out. How I ended up here is a mystery; one I always end up trying to figure out over these lonely lunches in my depressing, square office.

I'm an unmarried, middle aged, slightly balding guy, who's had more than his fair share of girlfriends, hookers and porn. But strangely it wasn't the fascination for the naked female that led me from being a top rated M.D aspirant to a small town doctor on an average pay. It was the clothed female; an eight year old one, to be specific.

I saw Angela on one of my hospital tours, my first to be exact. One look and I knew she was the most delicate thing I'd ever seen. Her soft, curly, brown hair fell all around her face and was being tucked behind her ear by a weeping lady I suspected to be her mom. I was instinctively drawn to the child.
"She has leukemia.", her mother said
"How bad is it?"
"The doctors are giving her two days to a week", she said with a sniff.
"it's an irony" she went on, "Angela always talked about becoming a doctor and setting up her own clinic and t-t-to think she'd end up dying in one..", her voice trailed off and pretty soon, she was in hysterics. I, out of practice, signalled a nurse to take care of the woman.

Turning to Angela, I could almost see her dreams in her closed eyes. I patted her on the head and brushed her hair aside, and vaguely thought about life and death the way it'd have been thought about in the movies. Mine was more abstract though. I wasn't able to put it into words the way they do in the movies.
As if on cue, her eyes opened, big, brown, and hopeful. And suddenly I felt the loss of my sister hit me back with a vengeance. Probably because I'd lost her the same way too, to that stranger called leukemia.
Tears stung my eyes.
She was trying to say something. I could hear her struggle to breathe. Slowly,
"...c-c-clinic...Angela's clinic.." she managed to say before those round eyes closed, hiding me from her.

Something about the serene look on her sleeping face kept me there.

Around ten minutes later, she opened her eyes again. They were almost pleading this time.
"you'll..you'll do it f-f-for me won't you..?" She asked me. I fingered through her hair and I think she saw me nod before she drifted off once more. She drifted away.

Before I had time to think through how I got from there to my clinic, "Healing Angels", my phone rang; insistently at that, snapping me out of my reverie. And instinctively, as I remembered the reality of my diarrhea-hit town, I knew what the call would be about. "Shit!"
